Scientists have extended the incubation period for COVID-19 patients to 7.7 days. While earlier studies had established this period to be between 4 to 5 days, new analysis now shows that this was an understatement.

The impact of this miscalculation has been already witnessed in the form of a rampant infection spread throughout the world. There are 21.6 million confirmed COVID-19 cases worldwide, with the number of deaths rising slowly, despite of so many SOPS.

Due to being highly contagious and already showing signs of mutations, the novel COVID-19 virus has raised concerns among researchers. With so much uncertainty about the true attributes of the virus, the validity of these revised incubation periods remains undecided for the nearing future.

Why is the correct determination of incubation period important?

The correct determination of incubation periods is extremely important to understand the behavior of a virus or infection. It determines the length of quarantine periods and the necessary steps required to stop the infection transfer.

Shorter incubation periods for COVID-19 has led asymptomatic patients to believe they were clear of the infection. Since their typical symptoms took longer to appear than the established limit of 4 to 5 days, the patients who quit quarantine were spreading the virus without realizing it.

With the new incubation period of 7.7 days, chances of containing the virus is increased by a good margin. It is highly likely for a majority of patients to experience the symptoms by the end of this period. This will allow necessary measures to be put into effect as soon as possible.

Why was the incubation period downplayed in earlier studies?

According to scientists, the earlier underestimation of incubation periods was affected by various factors.

The initial sample sizes that were selected for research were much smaller. Most data was based on self-reports which could have been impacted by memory gaps or any misjudgment by both the patient and the researcher.

All of these factors led to an undermining of results, leading to consequential damages.

New researches on COVID-19 incubation period

Considering the above mentioned limiting factors, a new research conducted by concerned bodies had a much better accuracy due to the use of various techniques.

Results were calculated using a much larger sample, comprising of about 1084 people in Wuhan, China. Researchers in China used renewal theory to deduce results from their data. This technique allowed them to remove recall bias, eliminating all problems associated with recalling an incident from the data.

A number of variables were used to collect the data. These included travel history, residence of subjects, date of diagnosis, date of onset of symptoms, and the number of confirmed cases around the area of study i.e Wuhan.

This data was obtained from databases of health commissions in China and health ministries of other countries.

The conclusive findings of the research pointed that the average incubation period in a majority of patients was 7.7 days. A small percentage of the research population also showed incubation periods over this limit of 7.7 days, with some showing symptoms at 14.28 days.

Who should consider incubation?

With so much variability in the appearance of symptoms, most people wonder whether or not they should consider quarantining.

For the most part, quarantine is necessary for people who have traveled using mass transit or gotten exposed to an infected person.

Exposure is possible when contact is made with an infected person for fifteen minutes or more within a distance of six feet. In other cases, physical exposure to the respiratory droplets of the patient can cause an infection. Reports of cases where contact was made during patient care have also been seen, increasing the different scenarios where exposure is possible.

If anyone is faced with any of these situations, quarantine should be seriously considered. With incubation periods varying so much between individuals, experts recommend quarantining for at least 14 days.

According to a recent study, cultivating cannabis indoors results in the production of large amounts of greenhouse gasses. Moreover, the impact of these gasses depends upon the location where cannabis indoor cultivation occurs.

Regions with milder climates require less heating and air conditioning. Moreover, their electric grids use more clean energy. As a result, greenhouse gas emissions in such regions are less than in other areas.

According to Department of Energy, Environmental Protection Agency, and industry data, growing pot cannabis indoors results in greater emissions of greenhouse gasses in the Mountain West, Midwest, Alaska, and Hawaii in comparison with Pacific and Atlantic coasts. 

Moreover, cannabis in southern California has the lowest emissions, and eastern Oahu in Hawaii has the highest greenhouse gas emission. Greenhouse gas emissions in Southern California are at 143 pounds of carbon dioxide, equivalent per ounce of dried marijuana. The cannabis industry continues to explore new products, lines of administration, and much more. Furthermore, researchers are working on finding possibilities to expand the medical use of cannabis. Research and development projects continue to work and explore marijuana deeply. 

Julia Patterson is a Texas A&M freshman and has a political science major. She is the first to become one of the youngest registered lobbyists in Texas, reports The Eagle. Medical use of cannabis to treat epileptic seizures was an effective approach for Julia as she was able to recover from epileptic seizures with marijuana use.

Julia Efforts For Expanding Medical Use Of Cannabis In Texas

Julia is currently working on expanding the state’s Compassionate Use Program, and for that, she seeks to influence Texas-Legislatures. She has been very active to encourage and convince lawmakers to expand their medical use of cannabis. Moreover, she has devoted herself to the cause and has been doing so since 2019.

She is also a participant in the Texas Compassionate Use Program, which allows physicians and psychiatrists to use low-THC medicines and products. Moreover, doctors under the program rules can give specific small doses for treating various health-related conditions to those patients who qualify.

In 2015 she advocated for passing the Texas Compassionate Use Program to treat more people with cannabis. In 2019 more qualifying conditions became part of the program. At the time, Julia testified before legislators. 

According to Julia Patterson, expanding the program will make a difference and improve the quality of life. Especially those that can recover from certain diseases with sufficient larger doses of marijuana. Her life altered after getting treatment with marijuana in the form of CBD-oil, and she wants to do the same for others.

Julia desires not only to expand the Compassionate Use Program but also increase the limits of THC. So far, individuals can get only 0.5% THC in any cannabis-based formulation as per the program instructions. However, the program allows for low THC % medication because it is psychoactive and capable of producing a high feeling. Moreover, according to Jayne Reuben, chronic use of high THC medications can lead to Cannabis-use disorder. 

Julia Peterson Recovers From Epileptic Seizers By Using CBD-Oil

Peterson had brain surgery and three medical implants. She was on a ketogenic diet for five years and received various medications. However, of the things she does or eats, nothing was effective in treating or controlling the seizures
