AWH is planning to acquire MOCA following its plan to expand accross the United States

AWH is heading towards acquiring one of Chicago’s biggest marijuana dispensaries – MOCA. The acquisition will involve accretion of two of the company’s outlets located in the neighborhoods of Logan Square and River North, following the approval from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional regulation.

“We are pleased to enter the third-largest city in the United States though our pending purchase of Modern Cannabis,” said the founder of AWH Abner Kurtin. “MOCA has been a leading player in the Chicago market, and we are excited to pair it with our Illinois Supply & Provisions (IS&P) dispensaries which include the top-performing retail outlet in the state in Collinsville.”

About AWH

Ascend Wellness Holdings is a vertically integrated organization with operations in Michigan, Massachusetts and Ohio. It is one of the largest privately held businesses in the cannabis industry that has redefined cannabis retail experience.

Their retail stores allow a direct interaction of the customers or patients with their product range. To blend into the digital era, they provide online ordering and in-store pick-ups to their customers. This is in addition to the tablets and digital options already offered in store.

AWH has planned even more expansions in the upcoming days. By November, the company plans to open another store in Springfield and another one in Fariview Heights by next year. It is also planning to inaugurate a 90,000 square foot greenhouse in its growing facility in Barry.

About MOCA

Medical and Recreational Cannabis Dispensaries holds two locations in Chicago. It started off as medicinal cannabis provider in 2016 but soon expanded into the recreational market as well.

The location of both MOCA dispensaries is prime and has easy access via public transit and transportation. The staff of these dispensaries is their greatest asset. It includes nurses, pharmacy as well as cannabis connoisseurs. Combined with the management team of the dispensaries, these human resources have earned MOCA the status of the best dispensary in Chicago.

The Benefits that will follow the acquisition of MOCA by AWH

At a time when most of other sectors are experiencing a slow-down, the commercial success of the cannabis industry in the state of Illinois is attracting investor interest.

Since the start of 2020, Illinois has generated over $300 million in recreational sales from the cannabis industry alone. The tax revenue it generated amounted to $52 million within the first six months of operation.

These figures have turned Illinois into one of the most high potential markets for the cannabis industry.

Since the unemployment rates have reached an all time high in this COVID-19 impacted economical crises, more tax revenue for the government means funds available to be allocated towards education, healthcare etc. With this, investors can expect further regulatory relaxations in the cannabis sector.

AWH is one of the fastest growing companies all across the USA, its acquisition of MOCA is very promising for the cannabis industry. “We always wanted to be up in Chicago and Cook County. We saw MOCA as the best opportunity by far”, said Abner Kurtin.

The co-founder of MOCA, Daniel Marks feels that the acquisition will give the company more resources, protecting product shortages.  This was said in the light of the shortages the company faced at the beginning of 2020. Although some of the shortages have been resolved but more time is needed to get back on track.

“AWH is a great fit for us. They have a clear, focused strategy and a nimble, ambitious team. Of the several partnerships we considered, AWH made the most sense for us in terms of their state and national size, growth trajectory, and company culture,” said MOCA founder Danny Marks.

Despite of all of these growth prospectives, AWH should be alert in striking a balance between retail store outlets and growing e-commerce in the cannabis industry.

Many students might not be interested in using marijuana independently but what will force them exactly? We all have been through this to an extent- the peer pressure! It will dwell students towards the recreational usage of cannabis. One puff and two and so the chain will continue.
Although the State has come up with laws to open cafes, how to go about cultivating, selling, and setting up the dispensaries it also needs to address the under-age usage. The state has imposed penalties over underage marijuana usage.

What’s the latest happening

Two legislatures have introduced a bill that would require schools to teach students in elementary about the risks of marijuana use.
On Thursday, Sen. Michaela Testa, R- Cape May introduced a bill that would make age-appropriate education on the risks of marijuana use mandatory for students from third grade till 12th grade. Testa further clarifies that marijuana will be legal for adult use as soon as the legislature gets its act together. This will send a very dangerous and alarming message to school going kids that cannabis is safe and its widely acceptance. This will hit the brains of children of all ages.

The Current Laws

The laws at present already aim to educate school-going individuals about drugs, alcohol, and tobacco use. The State’s 2020 education Standards include marijuana and cannabis. Also, it includes educating kids about social, emotional, and physical wellbeing. It also aims to provide students with knowledge about the potential harm and ways to say no to its use.
Simonsen states that the bill would allow schools to begin educating kids about the use of marijuana and to go more into details about the scientific knowledge of THC. Also to pay emphasis and make them analyze the difference between medical cannabis and unregulated marijuana. He emphasizes the fact that as the stigma seems to eliminate so there is a dire need to start it in the early years.
The state has passed two bills since the legalization of marijuana came into the limelight. One bill consists of all the laws and legal framework and the other consists of decriminalizing possession. Murphy hasn’t signed the bills due to discrepancies about underage possession penalties. He has asked the Legislature to make the changes.

CBD or THC

CBD is an excellent alternative to THC as it doesn’t make you high. Also, CBD proves to be a substitution to many medications over the counter for pain, anxiety, strokes, insomnia, and bone fractures. The cannabis industry still has a long way to go in identifying new ways to extract and derive compounds of CBD and its isolates. However, THC helps you in bringing the body together along with your mind to solidify the self-awareness that can be difficult to cater to.

People with chronic pain and medical complications are especially benefitted by using CBD or cannabidiol to make their body ready for practicing it. CBD has many therapeutic effects that result after the interaction of the body’s endocannabinoid system-majorly responsible for substances like sleep, pain, mood, and fertility.

Yoga and CBD- a perfect symbiotic relationship

Few traditional yogis warn about the suspected addiction that can be accompanied by recreational usage.

The topic of yoga and its combination with cannabis is still a controversial topic. Their interdependence and synergy appear to have embryonic roots. For many strict yoga teachers, it is a complete physical and mental discipline that doesn’t require any external substance use. On the other hand, many yogis believe that as its experience is enhanced by the burning of candles, lights and music so is cannabis another substance to create a soothing effect.
