Delayed cannabis dispensary openings provide new opportunities to Missourians

Delayed openings of medical marijuana dispensaries in St.Louis has opened new opportunities for small-scale cannabis businesses.

Missourians were expecting medical marijuana sales to commence early this spring. Contrary to these anticipations, delayed dispensary openings have obstructed the likelihood of anything happening before the next three to six months.

Why is there a delay in cannabis dispensary openings?

Almost 52,000 patients were awaiting the inauguration medical marijuana dispensaries in St.Louis but to their dismay, the process has been delayed by a few more months.

The delays occurred because the Department of Health and Senior Services could only approve two sites for marijuana cultivation. The rest of the 58 sites of the state are still awaiting their verdicts of approval due to final inspections of facilities.

How have these delays opened new opportunities for Missourians?

These delays have opened up new opportunities for some small entrepreneurs in the cannabis industry of Missouri.

One of them is Zachery Post, president of Elite Home Growers Academy. After having worked in the commercial cultivation facility of Las Vegas, he moved to St.Louis to begin his new life.

He provides workshops to students on different ways to grow marijuana by themselves in his academy.  He teaches them everything from germinating seeds to cloning and maintaining proper lighting and temperatures for the crops. Most of his students intend to become marijuana caregivers themselves. This means that they will want to grow marijuana plants on behalf of their patients.

Being a former stockbroker, Zachery Post is well aware of the investment market. Sighting legalization within the cannabis industry, he also holds separate classes highlighting investing techniques in the industry. “ This is what I could offer for the community,” he said.

After the current delays in the dispensary openings, he has his hands full with consultations relating to home-grown marijuana stations. His small business has experienced an amplification since March of 2020. The increasing number of appointments for guidance to set up equipment, lighting and tents for growing marijuana have kept him busy.

“We got one phone call to do a tent installation, and we took pictures and put it on social media — and next thing you know we’ve been busy ever since.”, he said. He sights the coronavirus pandemic just as any other challenge that could have been faced by the industry. The main thing according to him is to just keep moving forward and push through it.

Securing an opportunity for the black community

The most compelling argument in the favor of marijuana legalization has always been the attainment of social justice.

The role of the Black Lives Matter movement in pushing marijuana legalization forward cannot be denied. Arrests motivated by racism have always resulted in a severe out rage by the black community. Accommodating them with some business opportunities in the same industry can put some injustices to rest.

Business owners like Melaine Marie Randels want to secure growth prospects for the black community  in the cannabis industry. She herself is the co-founder of Canna Education Collective and plans to turn this organization into a ‘cannabis hub’ after renovating the selected site at Florissant Avenue strip mall.

Canna Education Collective will provide training to aspiring caregivers and will explain procedures on obtaining a medical card.  She feels that black people should become more than just consumers in the industry. The delays in the dispensary startups are an opportunity for the community to enter a pre-dominantly white industry.

Her views are backed by the fact that only 4% of cannabis businesses are owned by African Americans. Some of this can be associated with the bias of state programs that largely favor the white and wealthy of the society. In Pennsylvania for instance, the licensing made it mandatory for businesses to have $2 million. Most African Americans cannot fulfill this requirement.

With her organization, Marie Randles hopes to make entry into the market easier for the black community of St.Louis. “In order to break down the barriers of entry, we have to be able to position ourselves to have wealth. Not just a little cash, but wealth,” she said.

What delayed cannabis dispensary openings mean for owners?

Abe Givins is one of the few black dispensary owners in the area.

He chose Cherokee Street for his new venture -Viola– because it is a center of attraction for a number of ethnicities. With the launch of his dispensary, he was hoping to give people with scarred personal records due to marijuana, an opportunity in the legal cannabis business.

The repercussions of a delayed launch have hit the expectations of many others like him. The costs will be incurred for a good three to six months by him and many other aspiring retailers without any returns on their investment.

This step will lead towards new employment opportunities and will help families that have lost their means of earning at the hands of the pandemic. It is estimated that billions in terms of tax will be generated to help the state and its citizens.

End to Racism

You must know the history of the plant marijuana- which is believed to be an agent in stopping the immigration of the Mexicans from entering Texas. Helping Hand to Neighboring States

It will also help the neighboring states like Canada to invest in States. The leaders will look forward to trading. Constitutional developments and laws will help US operators and industrialists to trade around core positions. As soon as the legalization of cannabis takes place, multiple fund managers start to buy cannabis in the US which is of high quality. Despite the fact, there is a lot of supply of cannabis and capital raises we still need to remind ourselves that more laws need to exist. Like they have come up with the laws and decree for the growth, cultivation, supply, and possession laws they need to have laws for child-resistant packaging marijuana foods.
