Cannabis in food and drinks

As we see that cannabis is legalized in many states across the USA things are changing too. We see people using cannabis that had many stigmas attached to it previously. People prefer using it for their recreational activities and medicinal purposes too. This fact has skyrocketed the usage of cannabis and people love it. Although pandemic, COVID’19 has bought a lot of trouble and slowed the entire world.

Big things are happening in the news industry. Cannabis-infused food and drink are having a continuous increase in capital investment along with executives jumping into the new market. Many established people from the industry have promised to launch new products. 2020 didn’t turn out to be the year for cannabis but this year many officials are sure that cannabis is going to help in fulfilling the gap in the budget.

The current situation

Even though the industries made escalating growth in product development but many companies shifted their attention to the ongoing pandemic.  According to many researchers and analysts, 2021 will be the breakout year for cannabis. As soon as the last elections got over the legalization of cannabis in the States became the new change. FDA was pushed to issue a federal regulatory framework.

According to Alex Esposito, the legalization of cannabis has spread to the markets that were a big challenge for cannabis activists previously. In addition to this, he even says that as more recreational markets are coming online there will be more availability of edible and beverage kinds in the market.

With such changes in the laws, many companies are entering the US market with products that have CBD. Also, they plan to build on products that contain hemp plants and THC. Even companies from Canada are entering the US market. The US market is on the way to be the largest market with several opportunities globally.

Future getting shape by the regulation and elections

There are several laws when it comes to cannabis and CBD including state legalization and FDA regulation. Researchers say these small steps are indeed very positive for the industry.

The 2018 Farm Bill, allowed hemp and its derivatives to be classified as controlled substances. This was an important move for CBD.  It is still illegal to add cannabis and its derivatives to food and drink however manufacturers are looking forward to clarity.  Many states have created their laws and have voted in favor of cannabis. Many companies are stepping into market test products. On the other hand, FDA is continuing to issue warnings letters to businesses that are not advertising CBD properly.

FDA needs to take action

People are not buying many products because of the delay in approval by FDA. According to Henry Baskerville, this year is finally the time for FDA to create some guidance. In other words, all these things are harming the industry so proper laws should be there. Jeremy Kahn, the spokesperson for FDA reports that they are working towards the goal of providing more guidance and have made evident progress. FDA is looking forward to market several types of CBD products through different pathways.

When is the right time to jump on the bandwagon?

The pandemic has slowed many of the product introductions. Many consumers only clear and rush to stock food items. Therefore many companies are only focusing on maintaining production and their existing products rather than bringing new products to the market.

Bolthouse Farms, manufacturers of smoothies and juices, earlier said they will launch CBD infused products in 2020. More than a year has passed but still, they are working on the regulations to come up with any CBD products.

According to the spokesperson, unfortunately, COVID has delayed all state and federal work on the aspect so there hasn’t been much drive on that aspect and is declining to provide a time frame on the new product line launch.

Big Moves by Canada for the US

Canada allows cannabis-infused products to be sold at retail that has served as a testing ground for many Canadian companies. Canadian companies are now entering the U.S. Many American counterparts are waiting on the sidelines.  Big companies such as Aphria are expanding in the US. The beer and cannabis industry has been in a knot. We can expect a lot of mergers and acquisitions.

Cannabis Antibiotics

The cannabis plant contains multiple components of varying benefits, of which some constituents are psychoactive while others are non-psychoactive and have other pharmacological impacts. Because of the pharmacological benefits, researchers are working to formulate cannabis antibiotics.

According to the research of The University of Queensland, CBD is a component present in marijuana, is non-psychoactive, and is capable of killing bacteria. It is useable in antibiotics due to its ability to kill bacteria responsible for gonorrhea, meningitis, and legionnaires.

Moreover, according to studies, there is a possibility that drug-resistance diseases can cause more than 10 million deaths per year by 2050. The UN warns that there is an urgent need to deal with drug-resistant illnesses. Furthermore, finding solutions to the problems of drug resistance must be of utmost priority.

Drug resistance is growing, leading to critical problems shortly. According to neurologists, within five years, the NHS will successfully develop effective cannabis-antibiotics. Moreover, the treatment of drug-resistant diseases will be possible with the use of this marijuana containing antibiotics.

Cannabis In Antibiotics

CBD is the cannabidiol, a major non-psychoactive and second-most prevalent component of the active ingredients of marijuana. Two institutions researched using cannabis in antibiotics. The institutions that collaborate for research are the University of Queensland and Botanix Pharmaceuticals Limited

In their research, researchers examined how the CBD of cannabis penetrates through the protective membranes of multiple bacteria. Moreover, not only does the CBD enter the bacteria, but it also kills them.

Of the bacteria through which CBD penetrates are bacteria for meningitis, legionella, and Neisseria gonorrhea. The legionella bacteria cause legionnaire’s disease characterized by cough, shortness of breath, high fever, muscle pain, nausea, vomiting, and headache.

The researchers found that CBD was able to break down the biofilm of the bacteria. Biofilm is a slimy build-up of bacteria released by it to survive against antibiotic treatment. Moreover, the biofilm’s slimy layer is similar to a dental plaque on the surface.

What Is In The Future For Cannabis?

Cannabis-infused antibiotics may be available in the market. According to Professor Mike Barnes, pretty-soon general practitioners will start prescribing CBD pills to treat infectious diseases. Research on marijuana is progressing fast. Moreover, there are chances of formulating much better cannabis products for medicinal use.

According to Mike Barnes, it is high time that individuals understand the medical benefits of marijuana and take advantage of the plant to its full capacity. Moreover, the marijuana plant is useable in various ways to improve the condition of patients.

The new research led by the University of Queensland and Botanix Pharmaceutical Limited is helpful in the subject. However, further research is vital for developing much better, safer, and effective drugs containing CBD of marijuana.

More Studies Essential For A Better Future

According to Professor Mike Barnes, if CBD is placed next to bacteria in a plate, the cannabidiol will kill the bacteria right away. However, if a tablet containing CBD is on the same plate as the bacteria, the effect of CBD will be slower.

The professor is confident that with further research on the subject, better medicine formulation can occur for treating drug-resistant diseases. Moreover, UK regulators can formulate something that can fight against antibiotic-resistant gonorrhea. Furthermore, the formation of antibiotics for drug-resistant gonorrhea is the utmost priority of the World Health Organization.

Once the formulation of the cannabis-containing antibiotics is complete, the drugs will need the approval to conduct preclinical-trials and clinical trials. After completing the clinical trials and research investigations, the authorities will consider the drugs for approval after which they will be available in the market.

Deep studies and research investigations enable the formulation of a more effective formulation. The quicker the cannabis containing antibiotics gets approval, the sooner they will be in the market for treating drug-resistant bacterial diseases.
