medical benefits of cannabis

Various researches have shown that multiple medical benefits of cannabis to be true. One particular research talked about its link with treating cancer. This role of cannabis is due to FBL-03G. FBL-03G is a chemical found in cannabis plants. And it is known to have anti-inflammatory effects in the body.

A flavonoid derivative in cannabis can kill tumor cells

In the last few years, many countries have given their natives access to the cannabis plant. Due to this, cannabis has become a major point of discussion all over the world. According to international guidelines, cannabis is still a Schedule 1 drug.

Despite this fact, many countries of the world have already made it legal to use this plant. Primarily most of the countries have made this plant legal for its medical use. But, Canada and some parts of the U.S. have made cannabis legal for both medical and recreational use.

Cannabis can play a role in treating chronic conditions like cancer, epilepsy, and severe pain. And the researchers believe that cannabis has many other medical uses and can treat various diseases. But in the case of many therapies, the regulators haven’t approved the use of this plant for the lack of clinical trials on a large scale.

With an increase in the helpful clinical trials, regulators may reconsider the rules related to cannabis. A recent study has found that medical cannabis may cure pancreatic cancer. In the U.S., pancreatic cancer covers 3% of all cancer cases. But due to the one-year survival rate of only 20%, it can become a second major cause of cancer deaths by 2020.

Cannabis can be effective in cancer therapy due to the presence of FBL-03G in it. That is a derivative of flavonoids and has an anti-inflammatory effect on the body. The research team has noted that the use of flavonoids to treat pancreatic tumors can kill cancer cells. Recent data has shown that by 2023, the global cannabis market can increase from USD 10.3 billion (in 2018) to USD 39.4 billion at a CAGR of 30.7%.

Medical cannabis can avoid the need for multiple drugs

Recently, cannabis has become an effective choice to treat patients with cancer. Cannabis can mainly reduce pain caused by radiation therapy or chemotherapy. But this plant can also stimulate appetite and treat nausea in patients.

The multiple uses of the plant have made it an appealing option for curing cancer. Medical cannabis may also be a better option to cure pancreatic cancer. The use of cannabis can avoid the need for multiple drugs. For example, a cancer patient going through chemotherapy is likely to take opioids to reduce his or her pain.

The patient may also use drugs like Dolasetron or Aprepitant to treat nausea. And Megestrol or Dronabinol to stimulate the appetite. By taking cannabis, one can decrease the number of drugs that a patient needs (from three to just one) to treat his/her condition.

But with the frequent use, there are more chances that the patient will become tolerant of cannabis. And they will either need to ingest more cannabis or to increase its frequency.

As a result, the cultivators of craft cannabis are trying to provide patients with high-quality and more potent cannabis. And in the future, continuous trials on the benefits of medical cannabis may lead to an increase in interest and growth of the medical market.

Although the State has come up with laws to open cafes, how to go about cultivating, selling, and setting up the dispensaries it also needs to address the under-age usage. The state has imposed penalties over underage marijuana usage.

What’s the latest happening

Two legislatures have introduced a bill that would require schools to teach students in elementary about the risks of marijuana use.
On Thursday, Sen. Michaela Testa, R- Cape May introduced a bill that would make age-appropriate education on the risks of marijuana use mandatory for students from third grade till 12th grade. Testa further clarifies that marijuana will be legal for adult use as soon as the legislature gets its act together. This will send a very dangerous and alarming message to school going kids that cannabis is safe and its widely acceptance. This will hit the brains of children of all ages.

The Current Laws

The laws at present already aim to educate school-going individuals about drugs, alcohol, and tobacco use. The State’s 2020 education Standards include marijuana and cannabis. Also, it includes educating kids about social, emotional, and physical wellbeing. It also aims to provide students with knowledge about the potential harm and ways to say no to its use.
Simonsen states that the bill would allow schools to begin educating kids about the use of marijuana and to go more into details about the scientific knowledge of THC. Also to pay emphasis and make them analyze the difference between medical cannabis and unregulated marijuana. He emphasizes the fact that as the stigma seems to eliminate so there is a dire need to start it in the early years.
The state has passed two bills since the legalization of marijuana came into the limelight. One bill consists of all the laws and legal framework and the other consists of decriminalizing possession. Murphy hasn’t signed the bills due to discrepancies about underage possession penalties. He has asked the Legislature to make the changes.
